WIND SONG & CEDAR COVE
Four Generations of Fun on the North Shore
Driveway and Paths

Maintenance:
✓Remove dirt and rocks the four wood water drains on the driveway by using a dandelion digger to loosen material and the leaf/snow blower to remove it. Be sure to remove any dirt from under the 2x4” dividers in each drains so water can flow freely - each spring and as needed/after heavy rains
✓Remove dirt and debris from hole and two PVC drainage pipes under the driveway by removing material from the hole and pipes and from the east end (downstream side) of pipes. The hole is located on the west side of the driveway near the cedar tree with the Highway 212 sign. - each spring and [additional frequency?

-
✓maintain driveway drainage flow so it is diverted from going down the driveway and causing erosion:
-
✓in the area by the PVC pipes, use a shovel to mold driveway so that water runs into the pipes. Goal is to stop water from running straight down driveway
-
✓in the area where path meets the driveway (up by garage), use shovel to mold driveway so that water would run down driveway towards Cedar Cove instead of down the driveway toward Wind Song
-
✓Mow grass on edge of driveway - as needed about 3X/year
-
-
✓clean paths between garage parking area, Cedar Cove and Wind Song by using a rake with soft tongs from the top to clear the path of debris, pine cones and deer poop. Use clippers to keep path clear and prevent ingrowth. - Spring
-
✓clean and set up gnomes as needed - Spring
-
✓spread crushed salt on rock path behind Wind Song to kill weeds - as needed - Spring
-
✓replenish rock on paths to Wind Song and to the rock with pebbles from Hovland beach

In 2020, Soren built some new steps on the path between Cedar Cove and Windsong. He used ground treated 4 by 4's held in place with 18 inch pieces of 1/2 inch thick rebar. Holes were drilled first into the wood and then the rebar was pounded in. To replace steps, make sure to grade the area first and compress the soil and then drive the rebar as deep as you can. In certain areas of the path the bedrock is less than 18 inches deep so you have to cut the tops off the rebar.
