Tree and Plant Care

Grandpa Lee and Debby have fun gardening at Wind Song.  There are some perennials in the rock wall by the back door.  Annuals can be planted in the spring.  Flower pots do well on the deck as long as they are consistently watered.  Lutsen is Zone 3 or 4.  You can get plants at the hardware stores or at the Blue Moose in Grand Marais.

Maintenance:

  •  Water young Tamarack by Wind Song  (on path toward Cedar Cove by light post) - early fall and when dry during summer.

  •  Water the five White Pine saplings located in cages on property - summer and during dry periods

  •  Knock down bluebell stems between Wind Song and garden using a rake - each spring.

  • Many of the spruce trees are infested with Spruce Bud Worm and eventually will die and need to be taken care of and removed.

  • Take care of the newly planted Burr Oak.  It is by the garage right next to the driveway for Cedar Cove.  It will get very tall if treated well!!
