WIND SONG & CEDAR COVE
Four Generations of Fun on the North Shore
How Things Work at Wind Song
Below is some basic information about how things work at Wind Song.

Crawl space: The crawl space contains an electric hot water heater and a water pressure tank that supplies water to both Wind Song and Cedar Cove. Isak Hansen & Sons needs access to the crawlspace to open and close the cabin but otherwise it isn’t used. The crawl space contains two space heaters that can be used when it is very cold to keep the pipes from freezing. Only use the one closer to the crawl space door.

Heat: Wind Song is heated by electric baseboard heaters. There are thermostats in the living room by the door to the kitchen, the kitchen, the bathroom and the bedroom.
Insect control: Carpenter ants are in area pine trees and can damage the cabins. We use an exterminator annually to spray around Wind Song and Cedar Cover and nearby cedar and spruce trees. Call the exterminator if there are signs of carpenter ant activity; don’t use indoor insect bombs.

Keys: Contact Christa if you need to know more information about where the keys are located.
Water: Water is supplied by the well and is heated in a ~10 gallon electric hot water heater located under the cabin and accessed via the crawl space.
Wastewater: Wastewater is pumped from the cabin to the septic system located between Cedar Cove and the driveway. Do not put Kleenex or harmful cleaners/chemicals down the drains or toilet or it will harm the septic system. A toilet plunger is located in the shed.
Wifi: The Wifi network is Superior. Contact Christa if you want to know the password. Wifi service is provided by Arrowhead Electric. Service enters at the main router located in the loft at Wind Song. An underground cable runs from the main router to the router in Cedar Cove, located in the dining area’s bench seating. Both routers are rented from Arrowhead Electric. The Wifi speed is “medium.” Contact Arrowhead Electric to change Wifi to vacation mode, repair router or to change speed. To receive phone calls at the cabin, change mobile phone setting to receive internet calling.

Wood, kindling and fireplace: Wood is stored in the wood rick and kindling is stored in nearby small storage area. Burn wood from the dry side of the rick, indicated by the hanging fire symbol above the side. When one half of the rick is gone, move the fire symbol to the other side and order new wood for the empty side. To light a fire, open the damper by moving the lever (located on the on the lake side of the fire box) to the front and heat the flue. Keep the fire to the back of the fire box so that it draws properly. If it is too far towards the front, the smoke comes into the cabin instead of going up the chimney. It also may help to crack open a window by the dining table to get air circulating and increase the draw up the chimney. The fireplace should be cleaned every 2-3 years; look to see if there is any build-up on the screen at the top of the flue outside the cabin.
