WIND SONG & CEDAR COVE
Four Generations of Fun on the North Shore

Septic System:
The septic system was designed and installed by Isak Hansen & Sons in 1999 and was permitted by the county health department in 2000. Each cabin has its own pump to pump waste to the septic system. Because the system depends on microbes to treat waste, it is critical to keep materials that kill microbes out of the water system. Products containing bleach or labeled ‘antimicrobial’ should not be used where they can go down a drain.
Maintenance:
-
Mow the septic field in the spring to maintain grass and keep free of bushes/shrubs. Stop mowing on the 4th of July to ensure there is sufficient grass cover to insulate the septic system in winter.
-
Clean septic filter located in the pipe [describe location] each year. Remove the pipe cover, pull the filter up by its white handle, clean off debris with a garden hose, and reinstall with the arrow on the handle pointing toward the garage.
-
Have the septic tank pumped out once every two to three years (now due in 2022; Lee to arrange for 2023.). It costs around $400 to pump the septic tank and is an important part of protecting the drain field.

Water System:
The water system takes water from the well located by the parking pad at Wind Song and distributes it to both cabins. Water is pumped to Wind Song and then up to Cedar Cove. The pump is in the wooden box by the steps to Wind Song. There is a space heater in the pump box to be used when it is very cold/winter to prevent the pipes from freezing. In 2021, the pump and some piping was replaced after they froze during the COVID winter that Grandpa Lee and Debby stayed all through the winter.
Maintenance:
-
The water system has no ongoing maintenance requirements.
-
Isak Hansen & Sons has repaired the system.
